Simple Woodworking Ideas

Woodworking Projects: Save Yourself Time and Splinters

I’ve always loved being a father and hero to my two wonderful sons. But, there always comes an event, time, or incident when you feel like you’ve disappointed or failed them. A few years ago my eldest son joined Boy Scouts and I really enjoyed spending time with him hiking, camping, earning badges. I watched him earn ranks after rank and title after title and I couldn’t have been prouder.  It was nice knowing that I could help him accomplish something he really loved. That was until this summer when he started his route towards becoming a star ranked scout. One of the most pivotal merit badges that he needed to earn in order to attain the rank was woodworking. When he asked me if I could help him earn this badge I became worried, knowing that I had never completed any woodworking projects in my life.

All week I tried thinking of woodworking ideas and woodworking projects that we could build together but I came up with nothing. Anything I thought I had the skills to build wouldn’t be complex enough for the badge. When the weekend came, I was so embarrassed that I lied to my son, telling him that I had to work on an important project at my company and that we’d have to wait until the next weekend to build the projects. I even dressed in a suit and went to work on Saturday so he wouldn’t be suspicious. All day I researched woodworking ideas, trying to find plans that even I could follow but nothing I came across looked simple or concise. Every project had hundreds of steps and terms that I had never heard before. Even beginner projects managed to confuse and bewilder me.

The next day I went to a hobby shop and told the worker there my problem and asked if he had any woodworking kits that even I could complete. Unfortunately he told me that he had been a scout and that using kits was banned. But, he gave me the name of a site that he said sold beautiful and professional looking woodworking project plans that anyone could build.  The projects were easy yet professional looking like the site claimed. Each plan came with a detailed list of materials and clear step by step instructions, pictures, and blueprints. My son was amazed by the projects we built with my “professional woodworking knowledge” and my embarrassment was nowhere to be found. I’m completely supportive of this product as it shattered my hesitant expectations, providing me with invaluable tools that I am positive can help you.
